Service North panel discussion

As part of the launch, Scopism hosted a panel at this year’s Service North Global SIAM Conference. Hosted by Claire Agutter, panelists Alin Istrate (Stefanini), Anthony Lally (PZ Cussons) and Nicholas Williamson (Klockner Pentaplast) discussed some of the more intriguing survey results.

Global SIAM Survey panel discussion at Service North 2025

Strategic drivers for SIAM

The first topic discussed was the strategic drivers for SIAM. This year, the survey reported that SIAM adoption was being driven by:

  • A desire to have better performance from existing vendors (71%)
  • A need to measure and attribute servcie quality (71%)
  • A need for more control over existing vendors (68%)
  • A need to measure and attribute service costs (56%)
  • A need to reduce costs (49%, up 11% since 2024)

The panel all agreed that these drivers reflect their own experience, and the complex supply ecosystems that many organizations now operate in.

Challenges and Benefits

The panel also discussed the challenges and benefits reported by the respondents who had adopted SIAM in their organization. Benefits included better collaboration between suppliers, better reporting and management information and better performance overall. Challenges include organizational change management and embedding new behaviours, as well as creating a governance structure and coordinating processes.

Again, the panel were in broad agreement that with these themes. The panellists discussed the fact that there can be a tension between the investment required to adopt SIAM, compared to the benefits that will be achieved.

SIAM and AI

Finally, the panel reviewed some of the data relating to SIAM and AI. This years’ survey shows adoption of AI in 37% of SIAM models, mainly applied to operational processes such as incident and problem management.

The panellists agreed that AI adoption is still immature, and recognized the need for strong foundations and good quality data in order to realize the benefits. The panel also discussed the challenges survey respondents had shared related to AI adoption:

  • Lack of expertise (69%)
  • Integration challenges (62%)
  • Data privacy concerns (62%)
  • Cost (38%)
  • Lack of management support (31%)
