In just under three weeks’ time, on Nov 3rd, the refreshed SIAM Body of Knowledge (BoK) will go live at Service North, the global SIAM conference, and in the Scopism SIAM community.
In this blog, our architects Claire Agutter, Michelle Major-Goldsmith and Simon Dorst share their final reflections.
Why was a refresh needed?
Since the last BoK refresh in 2019/2020, the world has moved on. SIAM adoption has grown, and SIAM practices have evolved. Technology has changed, and more organizations are adopting complex operating models using SIAM alongside other ways of working, frameworks and methodologies. This refresh allowed the team to capture these changes, ensuring the Body of Knowledge remains practical, useful, and aligned with the realities of today’s service integration environments.
How was the refresh structured?
We started this project by assembling our architect team – Claire Agutter from Scopism and Simon Dorst and Michelle Major-Goldsmith from Kinetic IT. All three are highly experienced in the practical application of SIAM principles and have been closely involved with the SIAM and Foundation and Professional publications in the past.
Our architect team created a vision for a new BoK structure. Instead of separate SIAM Foundation and SIAM Professional Bodies of Knowledge, we now offer a unified, conceptual Body of Knowledge that encompasses the following elements:
- Core: SIAM Foundation and SIAM Professional
- Compendiums: Smaller, more focused publications that look at emerging SIAM topics such as SIAM and AI, or SIAM and Experience Management
- Additional materials: All of the whitepapers, case studies and virtual events that you can find in the SIAM community.
We put out a call for authors to our amazing SIAM community members, and were overwhelmed with volunteers to either lead a group, write or review. 2025 has been a dizzy whirl of author meetings, drafting, reviewing, updating and even more author meetings. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has contributed – 77 people at the last count!
What does the refreshed BoK include?
On Nov 3rd, we’ll release the refreshed BoK in the SIAM community, and we’ll also have some of our authors talking about their area at Service North, the Global SIAM Conference. This release includes:
- SIAM Foundation
- SIAM Professional
- Glossary of Terms
- SIAM and Other Practices
- SIAM Processes
- SIAM, AI and Automation
- SIAM and Experience Management
- SIAM and ISO Standards
- SIAM Skills
- SIAM and Trust
- SIAM Quick Start Guide
- Solving IT Challenge with Smart Service Integration
- SIAM and OCM
- Applying SIAM to the Enterprise Operating Model
- Practical Procurement for SIAM
- SIAM End-to-end Measurements
From Nov 3rd, you’ll be able to access the entire BoK, free of charge, in the Scopism SIAM community, and look out for lots of video content from the author team too.
What happens next?
The 2025 update evolves the SIAM BoK into a dynamic and adaptable resource, creating a continually evolving repository of best practices and knowledge.
In 2026, we’ll be setting up the Scopism SIAM Content Council, to review new ideas (and feedback on existing publications) and release new or updated Compendiums when they are needed. As with all our content at Scopism, we work with the community, and make our output freely available back to the community.
Architect’s final thoughts…
None of this would have been possible without our amazing SIAM community. Thank you to our architects, Claire Agutter, Michelle Major-Goldsmith and Simon Dorst. Thank you to our community manager, Steph Ward who organized hundreds of meetings. Thank you to all of our lead authors, and all of our contributors. We’re really proud of the new SIAM BoK, and we can’t wait to share it with you all.
