SIAM Body of Knowledge – Key Contributors

On January 19th, you’ll be able to download the SIAM body of knowledge here.  In this article, we’ll share some information about how it was written, and who was involved.

The vision

The vision for the body of knowledge (BoK) was to create a document that was practitioner-led and supported real world experience, not a document that was academic or theoretical. The Foundation BoK contains content to support the new SIAM Foundation training course available via EXIN and BCS, and is based on the input from many organizations, large and small, private and public sector.  SIAM has evolved over time, so different organizations use different terms to refer to parts of the SIAM ecosystem.  As part of the development, the group worked together to standardize terms, while not ignoring SIAM’s history.

The process

SIAM Architect Group
Voting on terminology at the face to face meeting
The BoK contributors formed the SIAM Foundation Architect Group, led by Scopism’s Claire Agutter.  Based all over the world, the group met regularly for conference calls, one to one sessions and a face to face session in London to get to grips with the really thorny terminology debates.  Group members wrote BoK sections, which were then reviewed and updated by second authors.  When all the content was complete, an end to end review checked for consistency between sections. The group worked hard to produce high quality content that would support the training program, but also be of real, practical value in the workplace.Content in the BoK includes:
  • Introduction to SIAM
  • SIAM roadmap
  • SIAM structures
  • SIAM and other practices
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Common practices
  • Cultural considerations
  • Challenges and risks

Architect group members

We’d like to thank everyone who helped to write the BoK.  It was a real team effort, and we hope to welcome all the group members back (plus include some new faces!) when we start work on the SIAM Professional training content later this year.Atos Trisha Booth Chris Bullivant Harry Burnett Charlotte ParnhamIndependents Rajiv Dua Kevin Holland Duncan Watkins Caroline TrillISG Simon Durbin Dean Hughes Andrea KisITSM Value David Baughan Damian BowenKinetic IT Simon Dorst Michelle Major-GoldsmithSopra Steria Nicola Boland-Hill Alison Cartlidge Anna Leyland Susan NorthSyniad IT Steve MorganTCS James Finister

Accessing the BoK

The BoK will stay on the Scopism website as a free of charge download.  We are also working with our publications partner, Van Haren, to create a printed version of the BoK for those that wish to purchase a hard copy.
